Kiwi actor Sir Sam Neill has died, his family has announced.
"It is with immense sadness that the whānau of Sam Neill share the news of his passing on Monday 13th July, in Sydney Australia.
“Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life.”
The statement says Neill’s death was sudden and unexpected but they were “blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free”.
It felt like he was in so much. Most’ll probably reference Jurassic Park but for me it’s HFTWP , Event Horizon.
Yeah, Wilderpeople is my favorite movie of hi
I first saw Sam in Hunt for Red October. His performance was equal to the bigger stars in the movie. I’d say better, actually. Sean Connery gets a Mulligan on any accent related acting points, but while Sean Connery played Sean Connery as Ramius, Sam Neal was Vasily Borodin. I think it was one of Alec Baldwin’s better roles.
I didn’t recognize Sam in HftWP the first time I watched it. Just like in Red October, he became the character. The only other time I failed to recognize a famous actor until after the credits was Jamie Lee Curtis in The Bear. Sam was a phenomenal actor.
Sorry, I went on a tangent there.
Thanks for expanding the acronym for me!
If anyone else is still missing the link, it’s Hunt for the Wilderpeople. An NZ film written and directed by Taika Waititi, and well worth a watch.
RIP.
HftWP is so much fun. Great but yes Event Horizon is such a great film; Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neil…so good.
Event horizon is also what had a massive impact on me back then. Obviously he’s great in Jurassic Park, but for me it’s not the first thing I think of with him.
RIP indeed…
