Japan never paid for what they did to the Chinese, Koreans and other peoples during WW2, like the Germans did. My impression is that the West only cares about the Nazis because they did whatever they used to do in European territory against Europeans. If they did the same against Africans or Asians, there wouldn’t be Holocaust museums spread everywhere.
The Germans didn’t really suffer consequences either, beyond a couple show trials.
The GDR did tho. Paid much higher reperations (about 120 times as much per capita). was very big into rebuilding the DPRK post armstice (third largest contributor behind the USSR and PRC) and many other cool things. Only to end up colonized and looted by west germany.
A lot of the economic and developmental gap between the West and the East can be explained with the reparations as well. The DDR had to figure out how to pay it all (and get the USD to do so, and fund their own recovery), while the US had learned from its interwar foreign monetary policy mistakes and gave the GDR the USD required to pay off the reparations (Marshall Plan), which doubled as a recovery fund.
I hate that we have to celebrate annexation day here.
Jup, also helpful to remember how the western allies helped capitalists from the soviet zone move their capital(money, machinery and so on) to the other three zones), further depleting the future GDRs wealth and increasing the FDRs.
Also an interesting tidbit is how reperation demands to the FDR were often unilaterally dropped, by the western allies and the FDR declaring them to be settled. The affected countries weren’t asked. Greece got nothing, all of eastern europe did not see a cent. This also lifted a huge fincancial burden of the FDR.
It lost a decent chunk of territory and about 14 million germans were expelled. It was not nothing. And yes East Germany paid reparations, which weakened the the eastern block as a whole, since the west quickly “forgave” west germany and restored its military capabilities.
If they did the same against Africans or Asians, there wouldn’t be Holocaust museums spread everywhere
They actually did do the same in China. Heck, the Americans did even worse to Koreans and Vietnamese. Fuck me they are doing it right now in Palestine.
Holocaust is seen as a unique travesty whereas it is just one of many other mass killings in world history. It is special only because it was white Europeans who died in it
Vietnam had a war memorial that i visited in Ho Chi Minh city that is frankly important to see what the west did to them.
I did enjoy the section on protests on the west as they showed its our governmejts that are the problem and they know this its not all of us
It is special only because it was white Europeans who died in it
Then they’d give a shit about the other victims too. The Holocaust is singled out because it happened to a useful minority. Had the colonization of the Levante not been so focused by the brits and later the yanks , the Holocaust would’ve ended up as pure historical tidbit like the massacres during the mongol conquests. Pure politcal expediency.
We know that, because there aren’t nearly as many museums dedicated to colonial atrocities
That gets pretty well ignored. In australia the British colonisers said the land was legally uninhabited and used that as a way to wipe out a lot of indigenous peoples and nations. We went from over 700 nations to now under 250 and frankly im suprised that many survived but i guess a lot are like Tasmania where there is nobody left as a full blooded indigenous, some have some indigenous blood but overall they were effectively wiped out and their languages an cultures erased with only a small token few left to try and pretend we weren’t genocidal.
Meanwhile china legislates protections for indigenous minorities and the west portrays them as oppressing minorities.
Find me a school in xinjiang and I bet it teaches uygur language, find me one in australia and I’ll bet it doesn’t teach any indigenous language at all.
On the contrary, they are very proud to display artifacts stolen from other lands.
the allies had such pure connections in these moments and genuine friendships it makes me sad to think about how many people were then separated by the cold war when they survived so much togther 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 chest hrurt💔💔

the one thing that never gets old for me is when the US humilliates Japan/skorea for no reason.
Like when amerikkka removed the THAAD system from occupied Korea to take it to west Asia as target practice for the IRGC?
Does that bolded 日本語 imply this used to be available in japanese ? Because it isn’t anymore lmao
Here’s some Japanese sources covering it, they don’t even mention takaichi https://agora-web.jp/archives/260925053148.html -373R56KGLVLHRHRYTJYKZF2MB4
First link sounds a lil ai written to me. But it expands a bit more. Most japanese sources aren’t mentioning Takaichi at all and to be honest this is a little of “nothing news” just reporting the reaction of someone who doesn’t have a reaction. Neither of these are “large” news companies in Japan.
English news about Japan is weird. But even in Japanese watching the hoops they jump through is a little amusing.
I like how people are still demanding serious explanations from trump concerning things he said and did, as if they’re still not aware that his brain is complete mush and he has no idea what he’s talking about.
lol
Japan will never amount to anything.
It’s concerning that they’re confused. Dementia patients say ridiculous shit all the time.
But China was part of the Allies though
But have you considered that now they’re bad?
Also the British was encircled in Myanmar by Japanese forces that the Indian forces attempted to break out but eventually get encircled again by Japanese, meanwhile the British personally requested legendary Sihang Warehouse victory 88th Division vets to trek thousands of kilometers from China with Yunnan partisans into Myanmar as suicide units to break both encirclements and freed British and Indian troops. Most of the 88th Division survivors later remained in Indochina especially Vietnam to fight against the French for Viet Minh especially brutal battles like Sa Đéc and Nà Sản where they dug under French garrisons as suicide squads and blow themselves up with munitions to make way for Viet Minh advance forces. In Battle of Hanoi 1945, 88th Division vets used molotov to smoke American Shermans supplied to the French and used bolt rifle like Mosin and M1 to snipe the French crews as they leave them.
FDR literally dedicated an OSS division in assistance of both KMT and CPC against Japanese occupation to the point the American ambassador at the time develop friendship with Chairman Mao even during 1947 Civil War. The USN did bombing runs in Tokyo via China rescue their pilots because their bombers didn’t have landing grounds and they directly flown into China territory for refuge as KMT and CPC partisans retrieved them.
