I think as a child I dreamed of being an air traffic controller, but then I learned the movie, Tin Cup was not real life, and I can’t stand on a runway under a landing jetliner even if I have the credentials.

This reminds me of this idiot manager we had at work once. He said he was going to lean on our vendors to get better prices. What ended up happening was the vendors one by one decided it wasn’t worth it until only one was left, they realized they had a monopoly and doubled their prices every quarter for the next 3 quarters. This is the problem with idiots who have never had a real job, they don’t understand how regular people think or what their motivations are.

not an air traffic controller but I assume it’s a pretty high demand job. would be a shame if all controllers started a general strike and froze air traffic for weeks just to prove a point.

not like this administration could entice anyone outside the US to work in this shithole anyway.

what’s the worst they’ll do? chain you to the desk and make you work at gunpoi-- yeah… they’d probably do that…

        They didn’t just get fired.

They were black listed from ALL federal government positions. That includes being an Air Traffic Controller. Now Bill Clinton eventually lifted the ban but that took 12 years and even then - very very few were hired back.

        then got fired and replaced.

From what i’ve heard the numbers never actually came back. All of them got fired but only some of them got replaced. I suspect most current ATC’s know this. Nobody is gonna want to work that thankless job if the fed is firing everybody because they wont resolve the poor working conditions every few decades.

Yeah, he probably would. Luckily He doesn’t have enough ICE agents to do that. And as ICE is his only personal army, that’s the force he’d have to use.

In other words, he’s all talk, he’s out of cards to play here.

I’m not american but I think “the worse they can do” is the issue here, they introduced laws allowing atc to be imprisoned if they strike. Their options really are limited to claiming to be unwell

The quiet quitting of ATC got the attention of the senate and congress.

Seems that Americans should just go on strike for like … three days.

Three days of “WhAT’s An EcONoMy ?” would get some attention.

Three days of no starbucks. No flight attendants. No UBERS. No amazon deliveries. No teachers. No grocery stores. No gas stations. No “admins”. No truck drivers.

Seems like three days of sit down and let them do it themselves would work.

It would be just easier, in an event of shutdown, to freeze all the assets of all members of Congress and Senate. You’ll see how fast they’ll reach an agreement when it’s their money on the table and not someone else’s.

      Solution: Release the Epstein files.

While I agree with you, at this point, do we really think it will be any kind of solution? Do we really think any consequence will actually come from it even if we have explicit evidence?

At this point, the fukkin Epstein files are the distraction. They are emptying out our coffers and dashing our world reputation to the rocks and gutting our most basic social services to keep us alive and healthy and have ended programs that would have otherwise kept millions of people alive around the world. They are doing things that will literally lead to the death and suffering of millions and millions of human beings.

America is developing a long, weird, disappointing history of hating on air traffic controllers. Wild move singling out such a small field of people who have such massively important roles in managing not just our travelers but all of our air-shipped goods and products.

In what is a highly trained, extremely stressful job with more direct responsibility than a typical cardiologist. But we value people who shuffle papers on Wall Street 20-2000x more.

Air Traffic Control is undermaned. They have some of the crazies requirements to getting a job and forced retirement. All this was due to Reagen in 1981. That ws 44 years ago and we still haven’t fixed this damage. Add the increased influence by private companies and I will be driving or walking everywhere.
