I think that’s the joke. Karaage also predates the US by a couple hundred years.

Middle Eastern cultures were deep frying dough as early as the 2000s BCE.

But the US developed and spread modern industrialized deep frying techniques which I think is what OP was getting at.

Nothing tops the Scottish pizza crunch in deep fried ridiculousness though.

        Thing, Japan 😍

Meme. i.e. the halo effect surrounding Japanese items makes an ‘unhealthy’ food suddenly healthy

1967 March Against the Electric Guitar (Marcha contra a Guitarra Elétrica in portuguese) was a notable protest in Brazilian music history that took place on July 17, 1967, in São Paulo. Key figures in MPB (Música Popular Brasileira) like Elis Regina, Jair Rodrigues, and Geraldo Vandré led the march. The core objective of the march was to defend national culture against the perceived “invasion” of foreign, specifically American and British musical influences. The electric guitar, popular in rock music from artists like The Beatles and the Beach Boys, was seen as a symbol of this cultural imperialism and the potential “americanization” of Brazilian and Latin American music.

The movement’s slogan was “Defender O Que É Nosso” (“Defend What Is Ours”). Participants sought to preserve the purely Brazilian sound of MPB, which typically featured acoustic instruments.

Love how this is supposed to be probably a fender strat but its just some random brand hehe. Its true that there is a culture of guitar chuds who love the “american” brands and admonish “foreign manufacturing” – prime example is how fender has a mexican factory and those are considered lesser tier. Exception to the negative view of foreign manufacturing being japan, those guitars are held to a higher regard to your average guitar chud (and some of them are good but I digress.) i think all of this is very silly. The guitar no longer belongs to the image of america, and rly I dont think america pushes the imagery of a strat playing star as much as they did in the 80’s. Any guitar brand can be shit or decent, which is why the guitar chuds are also amusing to me.

Want to feel like a stand-up comedy guy who’s been bombing a set for the past 30 minutes straight and at this point is just saying shit to see if people react to it? Really bad pun? A homemade cringe concoction? A cognitohazard that you have birthed into this world and have an urge to spread like chain mail?
