Why are people wiring their houses up like this?
It starts with zero consumer protection and it ends with just plain ignorance. It isn’t a long road either.
It also enshittifies your house. You put control of important things into the hands of the worst humans on earth via their shitty tech.
Fuck this thing, fuck Alexa, fuck the rest of them whatever they’re called. You’ve got to be a moron to do this.
This is one of the many reasons why you should never used cloud based cameras.
Keep your cameras and DVR on an isolated network with no internet access. Use a VPN if you need to access it remotely.
And use wired cameras so they can’t be easily disabled with a wifi jammer.
An always on camera with speaker and microphone, to which law enforcement has constant access. All it needs is an always display. We’re ¾ of the way there, gents.
If you think they’ll use it to find the package thief, you’re fooling yourself.
All these cameras do is give you a memento of the theft or other event. They do nothing to stop crime, and cops DGAF about looking at your video:
“Yep, that’s a video of a guy stealing your truck from your driveway. Prolly should’a put it in the garage.”
When my car was stolen the police and the county toll road authority both confirmed that neither would bother co-ordinating when my toll tag in that car registered on the toll road sensors.
This isn’t necessarily true. Last year my wife was kidnapped from our home. Would have had no lead or direction if it weren’t for my neighbor’s security camera picking up the perpetrator’s truck coming down the driveway and back up it after. That was the only thing that helped me figure out what the fuck happened and for law enforcement to get her back (after a ridiculous amount of community pressure that night). That being said, fuck Ring and the surveillance state. Run your own private cams.

Yeah life is fucking insane. We moved out of that house now. It was in a kind of dangerous area relatively speaking. Some people are horribly fucked up.
Someone told me that they can request your video/audio but you can decline/ignore the request. I haven’t verified this because I will never own anything like it.
How do you know they honour your decision to deny them the footage, instead of taking it without your knowledge or consent?

- Theatre (Theater)

- Dialogue (Dialog)
And a lot of ESL speakers will write in a mishmash, since they read off of the Internet with mixed sources.
Primarily had my ring camera as a deterant to some dickish neighborhood kids doing some vandalism. Since they’ve stopped their hijinks, maybe I’ll just point the camera at a print of goatse for a while until it runs out of battery.
