I’ve never listened to KEXP on the air but their YouTube channel is amazing. It’s how I’ve found a good chunk of real obscure music that I’m in to. Can’t recommend them highly enough, might tune in on a digital radio service & give them a go!
For sure! I’m an Aussie and I wanna get rid of that shit. Not just because I’m a major sci fi nerd (well, a big reason) but I’ve always been partial to the Aussie flag as depicted in Event Horizon.
Just the usual shit - old white man in his 60s or older with a (hopefully) 18 year old Filipino chick. Looked pretty young though :s. Saw a lot of that when I was over there, I get it’s legal but it still makes (my, at least) skin crawl.
I’m only a month in to my Lemmy journey (a few days or so of being actually active now I understand how it works) and I have so far found totally the opposite.
It’s sure a lot nicer than reddit, we can express ourselves better here without worrying about the banhammer or shit like that. Hell on Reddit I used to get permanently muted from communities just cause I said a ‘bad word’ - once was by a really good sub because I directly quoted an Australian animated skit with the word cunt in it. I’m Aussie so I’m not offended by it in the least, it’s an Aussie staple that can mean all kinds of things.
People here seem nicer, smaller community, more open for a chat, don’t have to autistically worry about someone getting offended as often. More likely to upvote comments too.
In short, fuck Reddit haha.

Yep! I’ve gone back to the glory days of an iPod, but with an old iPhone I use just for local music when I want Bluetooth & modern conveniences. Soooo much better! I have my whole library and then some on it, 128GB iPhone 12 filled with opus music, on an app I built with AI help.
The app is just for myself and can’t be distributed as it uses some API stuff that can’t be posted to the App Store, but it took me about a solid 2 hours of work on Kiro (basically like cursor) to make my own perfect music app.
It works totally offline, scrobbles everything I listen to, and when I have internet again automatically uploads it all to lastfm. Deep listening stats, the works.
I’ve cancelled all of my music subscriptions now and have my own library of all the shit I like. For free! Want more music? Sail the seven seas!
Oh my god we can say shit like that here?! Thank fuck, I got a Reddit ban (permanent) 12 years down the shitter cause I compared the actions of modern day Israel to a certain historical German political party… don’t think they liked that one! And it was instant too, soon as I posted I got a “GraphQL” error then like 30 seconds later a message saying my account was banned for “promoting hate”
I’m still figuring out this whole Lemmy thing but jeez reddit is just a cesspool of utter garbage. Feels much better being here!
