A lot of people don’t want to admit it, but NIMBY property owners are just as complicit with inequality. In my country, the same two parties keep getting elected despite nearly twenty years of housing crisis, because their constitutents and half of the country are property owners who don’t want rent and property prices to go down. As a matter of fact, rent went up and people got evicted after the parties in power overhauled renters rights.
We had a federal Green Party politician who rented a home and gave 50% of his wage to a homeless charity. He said politicians were way over paid.
Apparently, this was so egregious to voters in his electorate, he lost at the next election 2 years ago.

Free market, individualism and neoliberalism, yo!
