I was on the Fiio site, used to have one of theirs that was pretty much an iPod that used SD cards, none are so simple now but not bad compared to most that are pretty much an Android phone without a SIM card.
Honestly, the more I look, the more something like Tangara sounds right for me. That, or just rolling my own with a board, a DAC add-on, and some fiddling with Linux to make it work. Pretty sure I could set one up on RISC-V board I was looking at.
