I don’t think there is this cycle, at least in the minds of western UA supporters, just go to .ml where somebody posted videos of multiple brutal kidnappings and people resistance against them, and read the comments. Warning, full cognitohazard.
I am familiar with how deep in denial the liberal lemmy instances are, to the point that they will deny/ignore even video evidence.
But it is also an observable pattern with NAFO twitter accounts that do understand to some degree what is happening in Ukraine that they will go from celebrating and gloating about Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian civilians to crying and acting shocked when the inevitable response comes back onto Ukraine.
