    Doing the “right” thing for a very wrong reason is still wrong.

    There are legitimate reasons to be skeptical, but the state has no right to your children.

      States don’t have rights at all, rights are for people. But, the purpose of a state is to make society livable and sustainable. There is likely a benefit to society in mitigating the use of parasocial relationships with chat bots as a substitute for actual interpersonal relationships.

        I think there is benefit to society in creating alternatives to parasocial relationships with chat bots.

        Until then, I see this as somewhat analogous to fighting ADHD by banning Adderall. Yeah, the drugs aren’t good for you, but the lack of them is worse.

          But on the other hand, crack is also not good for you. I think a society where crack is banned is probably better than one where it is abundant

            And yet, cocaine is schedule 2 in the US, with legitimate medical uses primarily in pediatric emergency medicine.

                And in an ideal world, kids don’t get head injuries and don’t get cocaine smeared on them. But we don’t live in that world.
