When you do these things, does it matter to you if your battery sits at 3 percent (charging from a power bank) or 100 percent (switched in a new battery). Again, I’m not saying either is perfect but they both have advantages and I’d (personally) take the power bank over powering my device off, switching in a semi-proprietry battery I’m, turning the device on and getting a (presumed) 100 percent right away.
Once you switch device, those proprietary batteries are useless while the power bank travels with you. Again, neither is perfect. I’d like both options available.
You’re still missing a lot here, point one is that a sealed battery is diminishing returns, less charge held with time. Swappable means 100% charge, but also 100% new battery health with aging cells. Second, your overlooking the point about wired or wireless banks needing babysitting - talked about wireless alignment issues, but you’re also putting a lot of stress on your usb-c port, a common failure point, by shoving those wires in pocket while trying to charge on the go. Last, the price of the proprietary batteries was negligible, and they were the size of like two to three credit cards stacked. If you are holding on to external power banks that long as well (which you likely aren’t) your risk of those things bulging/exploding in yet another sealed case increases. When you hold the batteries themselves, you have full transparency and can act ahead of issues with bulging.
So, no, I respectfully do not agree with your premise - They aren’t equal, swapple batteries were objectively better in multiple ways.
P.s. what are even doing on a smartphone that you can’t be bothered to power down for the literal 15 seconds it takes to cycle modern devices to then resume with all apps still in background process and auto saving content?
I never said they were equal. If I gave that impression, I’m sorry. My point was, given the advantages and disadvantages of each, I’d pick the power bank. I’d like to have both. I’d like to have SDcards, I’d like to have headphone connection. Hell, I’d like to have PCMCIA or PC Express or aaaaaanything internal. I’d also like a physical keyboard but not all battles can be won.
