    They are not hostile or aggressive.

    … until you try to open a bank account with them ad a foreigner. Tourists are fine and tolerated but become an expat and you’ll have a much steeper time.

      Why do white immigrants often call themselves expats? I’ve never heard anyone who wasn’t a well-off immigrant white guy self-describe that way.

        I’m not sure of why others wouldn’t:

        expat /ĕks′pāt′/

        noun

        1. An expatriate; a person who lives outside his or her own country.
        2. A person who is voluntarily absent from home or country.
