    lobbying works because we can’t trust people. we trust money instead.

    so, i guess in the proper response format, incorruptible representatives?

      Lobbying is just the act of proposing ideas to public representatives. The problem isnt that lobbying exists, its that its been twisted by monetary incentives.

      I dont think that contradicts your general point, mind. As you say, the problem is how money affects politics, the need for representatives to fund their campaigns (and for the less ethical ones, their personal comforts).

      we could make lobbying illegal, but then what would be the point of becoming a public servant?

          the point is that people go into public service these days to get rich because of lobbying.

          after winning the lottery, winning an election, esp a federal one, is one of the fastest ways to go from normal person to 8 figures in wealth.
