Throwing out a lot of bad, unfounded assumptions there, boss.

Housing first programs have repeatedly shown to be the most effective way to …drumroll fucking please, house people!

Most people who become homeless, do so not by bad choices but because they get fucked. Fired at the wrong time. Arrested by overzealous cops who beat the shit out of the first guy that looked like an easy target. Screwed out of rent by roommates ditching with no notice. And so on.

And yeah, a lot turn to drugs and alcohol, because being homeless fucking sucks! Go figure! Enforcing people into a housing program who’re gonna get the shakes on the second night is a non fucking starter.

The vast, vast, vast, majority of people Will and Do work to better themselves, given a chance to do so.

Look at every single time a UBI has been trialed anywhere.

Utah, conservative, judgmental, hellhole it is, implemented a housing first program, because it’s more effective.

Don’t be a nimby piece of fucking shit, you’re closer to being homeless than you think

Ya, I’m a city bus driver. And I can tell you with 100% confidence a large segment of the homeless population will absolutely wreak any space they’re in. Pretending they won’t has ruined so many nice public areas. Your naive AF if you think you can just sweep the majority of these people into an apartment and call it good. I’m not heartless, I do want these people taken care of. It’s a complicated problem with no easy answers tho.

Woo I knew I’d get some comments like this! Good points. I’m only talking about the homeless people I see, who would 100% need some sort of guidance to be housed. You can’t just pull them off the street and put them in an empty house is what im saying.

You need an entire program as you mentioned, for it to work. The good news is once you do that the issue should solve itself. The bad news is theres no way people are going to want to be taxed for those (becuase that’s how they spin it. you pay for the taxes for these programs , when it should be billionaires) when they are already taxed to death and get nothing in return (in america)

Oh I know, there is a ton of propaganda out there trying to trick people into thinking they are closer to billionaires than homeless. We should all know thats false.
