If you zoom in, you can see its proboscis that is the length of the moth, maybe 10-12cm.
I love seeing these, it’s always is a bit of a double take.
That’s an interesting hummingbird, wait a second. What is that thing?

Especially when they sound like them too
Video of it going between flowers.
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
I’m assuming this is the Eurasian Macroglossum stellatarum?
White lined sphinx moth I think. It’s native to my area as well as OP apparently. they are a hornworm caterpillar that looks just like a tomato hornworm. I get the caterpillars a bunch any time I grown tomatoes of any variety.
Oh thank you. I have trouble identifying some.
I only know what it is because there’s a botanical garden nearby and they do gardening stuff there from time to time and the caterpillar form of this moth, the tomato hornworm, the moth form of the tomato, the five spotted hawk moth, and the tobacco hornworm and its moth variety but I forget what the moth is called. All three of the caterpillars are prevalent here and I have found them all in my garden at one time or another.
I’m very much a rookie when it comes to identifying stuff. My k owledge base is pretty small relatively.
I haven’t been to a botanical garden for a long time. Must be nice to have one so close. It also sounds like you have a lot of little vistors to your garden too.
I happened to find out about the lobster moth today, it’s a cute moth. The caterpillars are fairly unusual looking which caught my eye at first.
isit? I thought humming birds only lived in north America
Edit: Eurasian Macroglossum stellatarum aren’t hummingbirds their hawk-moths
Ah sorry I was reading something on moths earlier and misread the title thinking hummingbird moth.
nw convergent evolution, it’d take a trained ornithologist (without access to tinternet) to identify the difference
Because its just a hummingbird moth, that’s acting like a bird, that thinks it’s a bee
neat. I see them occasionally on my Esperanza plant in my backyard. They really do sound like hummingbirds.
Beautiful!
Just learned these cute bugs will feed at hummingbird feeders too, will look out or them now
Not that hummingbirds ae all we get at the feeder, there’s this one woodpecker who I’m worried we’re gonna give diabetes with how much sugar water he drinks every day
How lovely
