This may be one of the strangest takes I’ve heard online.
Narcissism is not a slur. Being a narcissist is not just being self-centred, or being predisposed to not empathise as much with others.
It’s a label placed on those who are self-centred, and unempathetic to others who have the ability to do so. They are negligent.
No one (reasonable) is out here claiming self-centred behaviours from someone who has a disorder is being a narcissist.
Narcissist is not a slur.
Psychopath? I dunno. Still, who the hell are you being offended on behalf of? Who is out there being offended by either of these words? No one, no one identifies with either of these words, because they carry implications of intent.
So, are you one of the people who thinks we call selfish people n*rcissists because it’s a mental disorder and using mental health terms to insult people is groovy? Or are you one of the people who thinks we do it because that 16 year old from the Greek myth who didn’t want to date anyone was an arrogant git and deserved to die for selfishly keeping his body from the world?
Because those are the only two options. Either the word comes from the mental disorder, or from the pedophile myth. And they both suck.
I’m asexual, and I’m not comfortable with you using a word that has been used to attack other asexuals and aromatics for thousands of years. Not to mention the way you’re implicitly supporting pedophilia. If you didn’t know, then it would be forgivable, but you know now, and you still choose to use the aphobic, pedophilic word. So I think something is flawed in your ability to tell right from wrong, and in your ability to exercise kindness.
This has got to be ragebait. If not, I’d strongly encourage you to update your personal vocabulary to be in line with modern use of narcissist, so you don’t need to be offended.
You’re getting offended about a word being used because of its origin, a word who’s meaning has changed since it’s coining.
Should people stop using “queer” now too? Even though the connotations have changed and are no longer negative (well, this is somewhat in the process of changing, there are still fuckwits who use it negatively).
I know people say this on the internet a lot, but there’s some grass outside in some desperate need of touching.
People are not using narcissist in the way you’re getting offended over. I can confidently say that the vast, vast majority of people don’t even know it has anything to do with sexuality. Most people have no idea where the word comes from.
Its origin is now a historical curiosity, as is all etymology.
It’s like you’re going out of your way to be upset over something no one is intending.
You can make your point without using slurs.
What slur?
Psychpath and nrcissist are both slurs. They’re not in the DSM, they’re shorthands for stigmatised disorders.

What? No? Did you read my comment?
Are you aware that meanings of words, and how they’re used, change?
I’m gonna just have to assume this is ragebait

Why can’t you just use another word?
