Punk got into its stride, goth came along, the new romantics, the new wave of British heavy metal broke into the mainstream, thrash came into being, rap arose (possibly as a counterpoint to the declining disco) and gangsta rap was born, we had the golden age of hip-hop… comforting might not be the right word.
Ignoring the memetic theft and slopification - the 70s was far too full of nauseating disco. Give me the best 500 from the 80s any day.
