Turns out people track this kind of information so we could look it it up to see if you were right. You were wrong. Not only is hanging still an extremely common form of suicide (even for black people), but doing it outside is the preferred method.

The article that listed all of the hangings had links to articles about each individual case in which there were interviews and quotes from the people involved with the investigation and reports from the autopsies that showed no signs of a struggle.
