I’m tired of being screwed over so I’m done. So far I have:

  • Installed YouTube music and YouTube via Morphe
  • Installed uBlock Origin, Sponsor Block and YouTube Enhanced on Firefox
  • I’ve also installed YT-DLP to download videos if I have to.

Yet to do:

  • Work out the best app for my Nvidia Shield Pro 2019
  • Work out if there are any alternatives or way to still use my google nest minis in any way.

Does anyone have any advice or tools to help improve the experience?

Finally I have to add that I do also have a full ARR suite installed and setup on a raspberry pi for but I’ve always found Lidarr to be the weakest of the bunch. Works a treat for my TV shows and Music

navidrome, self-hosted is what I use. Personally, the less I have to contact google’s servers for the media I enjoy, the better.

Sorry I don’t have better advice, but alongside soulseek, lucida.to, and torrents, I have way more music than I think I’ll ever be able to listen to in my lifetime.

Another vote of support for Navidrome from me.

I used Morphe as well, but I got annoyed at having to go and fix those songs that have the audio from the music video, for example Cake - Short Skirt/Long Jacket. Only option to not have that is to create a playlist and replace the music video with another version. Sometimes that meant using some random persons upload of the song. Not very nice to do when you just want to click “play full album” and enjoy music.

Anyway, took me like 6 months to build current music library, its around 120gb at the moment. Got all the most important ones there, now its just a matter of going “oh right I need [artist name] in there as well!” every two weeks. I set things up for my dad as well, so now he can enjoy the Navidrome stuff as well, thats a big bonus.

I second the existing recommendations. Unfortunately Lidarr is only partially operational. My stack consists of:

    • Music on a large storage drive
    • Slskd so it keeps my account active and supplies a WebUI for downloads (but if you try to browse users with 500K songs, the browser just dies trying to load it all in memory)
    • Beetbox beets for metadata embedding, renaming and moving into the final storage as per my naming convention. Pro tip: pipx install beets[lyrics] to include the lrclib plugin
    • Navidrome for hosting a personal streaming service. Comes with a WebUI, and is SubSonic compatible to allow any SubSonic client such as Symfonium or Tempo (available on F-droid).

For my particular use case (Proxmox-based container), I have a tutorial available. This can no doubt be adapted slightly if your system differs.

SmartTube for your nvidia shield. You’ll need ‘Downloader’ to get it. Also check out Project Ivy for the shield if you want a better UI

My main issue with music streamers is that lately they have been pumping way too much AI garbage music into my playlist.

What’s a good playlist generation app to discover music in the same vein as a song or album I select?

I couldn’t get Lidarr to work very well so I started using Soulseek. Highly recommend it!
