Carney said the equivalent dollar-for-dollar counter-tariffs will focus on sectors such as dairy, steel, household appliances, farming equipment, electronics, and pulp and paper

Early Saturday, the United States imposed 50% import tariffs on $20 billion in Canadian goods.

In response, Canada announced plans to launch retaliatory measures starting Sept. 8, after final talks aimed at easing growing friction between the two long-standing allies broke down.

The duties introduced by Donald Trump impact roughly 5% of Canada’s annual exports across the border, affecting items as diverse as tongue depressors and hockey sticks.

Speaking from Ottawa, Carney stated during a 22-minute address to Canadians, “in the coming days, we will release the details of these new tariff measures, which will come into force the Tuesday after Labor Day.”

probably already stated, but the last minute addition to the usa offer included usa control over Canadian ports, cancel trade deals, give america veto over future trade deals, sole access to rare earths, drop french as an official language.

pretty much everything is to eliminate Canadian sovereignty. No wonder Carney said no.

And you know that if they accept it. They would only smell weakness and come back the next week demanding that montreal be renamed Trump City. And the week after that it will be renaming canada to Trumpistan.
