Not really news I guess, you already have JXL in some form in current Firefox but YIPEE etc
EDIT: I have become the JPEG-XL joker. When I make the news, the https://jpegxl.info/ url will be in my manifesto.
Genuinely cool tech and I’m kinda pissed that Google just abandoned it for objectively worse webp. Especially because you can convert between JPEG and JPEG-XL pretty seamlessly. We just need CDNs to start using the format, but they won’t use it until most browsers do.
Hopefully Firefox adopting it is just a sign that Chromium isn’t far behind. Especially since (annoyingly) Firefox/Mozilla is just a Google cutout.
Also webp = webpee, who came up with that name “here bro enjoy web urine”
