Actually, funny story. I have big eyes similar to hers. When I smile normally, they squint so I look like I’m closing my eyes or sleeping (and my eyelids are very trigger-happy with flash so it’s a double whammy). I then get the feedback to “open my eyes” and I end up looking insane like that photo. So it’s a lose-lose situation.
In general I photograph poorly tbh, I look better in mirrors and in motion 🙂↕️🙂↕️
All my siblings and I do the same. There is an image from the wedding of one of my sister’s. And the only person without crazy goggle-eyes is a sister in law in the back of the photo.

Same. Rather than “opening your eyes” raise your eyebrows. This will “open your eyes” a bit without summoning the full crazy eyes.
This is so smart, will do tyty
Amazing advice
As someone who has literally decades worth of pictures that look like they were taken “moments before the incident”, I am glad I can help.
I also must admit that the thought that literally dozens of people around the world are flexing their foreheads because of me is very amusing.
You are overthinking 😂
