That’s actually exactly how the upper workings of cults of personality tend to work. You get a crop of lieutenants or whatever you want to call them who rise up and either expand their power or gain power via the leader, often times solidifying their own sub group under the leader. They can’t do anything against the leader since the others would rip them apart and they can’t go after the others without the leaders permission for basically the same reason. Once the leader is removed for one reason or another they tend to go after each other to obtain the leaders power and to further expand their own.
Upside to the current powerful dipshits is that they are borderline braindead and basically all their powers are questionable at best for one reason or another. Within the administration for example Kegsbreath they are broadly disliked and frankly too stupid to maintain anything long term. Without it’s basically a house of cards held up by stocks and economic bubbles, if anything goes wrong faster enough they both will collapse.
And here’s the thing, there are so many fucking landmines sitting in the trail the US is going down that it’s not a matter of if but when something goes wrong
and shatters their power. Something as simply as a botched natural disaster response could easily spiral into states severing communications with the feds, arguably it’s already started in lesser forms with states denying information to the feds. Hell the ongoing oil crises could in theory shitcan interstate trade and cave in the economy outright, let alone the stupid trade wars.
My point is long term and even short term depending on circumstances is basically a garunteed pyrrhic victory. They are clunching sand with a mangled hand.
