    Why did the USSR allow rent? Isn’t that stealing from the workers with a Landlord who didn’t earn it?

    Mao had the right idea of Landlords.

      It wasn’t private rent. More like a housing cooperative where the members are pitching in for common maintenance.

      In modern China they have landlords, but it actually makes rent cheaper because the managerial cost is offloaded and the government has driven rent prices to the floor by creating a massive oversupply of housing production. It’s very fascinating that there are landlords at all, it almost feels like a trap. I’d kill to talk to one, I wonder how the numbers work
