    An executive order is a directive to the executive branch of the federal government. Nothing more. The POTUS is given broad discretion over the executive branch under the US constitution. But, executive orders are not laws and do not apply to anyone aside from the people who effectively report the president.

    Not that directives from the president can’t have a tangible impact. They certainly can. This particular tantrum, however, does not and will simply be ignored by everyone else.
