"The United States has a strong interest in continuing to develop a robust and competitive artificial intelligence industry that sets the standard for the practice and procedure of AI use globally," the brief reads.
I feel this is Americans being completely misguided as to their own interests, mostly due to shortsightedness, insider dealing and other forms of corruption.
One of the pillars of American imperialism is intellectual property law enforcement (can’t joint WTO unless you agree to TRIPS). If we now say that IP law doesn’t apply if you compress IP via LLM then creative work becomes unprofitable and US doesn’t have media to export. Trump and company might be deluded enough to think they can replace it with LLM output but would their Supreme Court agree? That US media made half of the world look at everything through American perspective, which gave them immeasurable advantage akin to cultural victory in Civilisation games.
I don’t think that’s the end of the story because US media still have their own lobbyists. It’s a clusterfuck but at least it’s „interesting” to observe.
The ending of a lose-lose case ended in American nationalism and industry favoritism. Yay
