droids can barely think for themselves in SW canon - like they’re literally slaves outside of the ‘special’ (the term iirc is manumitted or whatever) droids :(
IRL we have people trying to romance AIs that aren’t half as clever or independent. I’m not saying that a human-droid romance would have to necessarily be portrayed as a positive thing (it might very well violate established ethics in-universe), but it would make sense that in a galaxy with trillions or quadrillions of people, there are a few that fancy a droid.
And manumitted droids do exist, so it doesn’t have to be a master-servant sort of deal either
Closest I’m aware of is in some of the old EU novels where two of Luke’s students are in a relationship and something happens where one of them has his consciousness transferred into a droid body.
