the war on bikes escalates— what’s next, a war on Christmas??
I love Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, but this is some serious bullshit.
You won the election. It’s over. The pro-car asshole was defeated.
Now it’s time to be BOLD. Democracy is great, but we can’t keep having debates and community inputs. Do these angry residents have actual evidence that their ideas will improve the city? No.
The masses are not always right. Real leadership means you need to accept to be temporarly unpopular when you know you are right.
I don’t like Billionaires, but Mike Bloomberg was a great New York City mayor precisely because he didn’t give a shit about being popular as long as the data was on his side. He banned smoking in bars and restaurants, mandated calorie counts on chain restaurant menus, pedestrianized much of Times Square, created the Citi Bike Program, invested in bike lanes. People kept whining. He just ignored them.
Is this even the masses or just a few loud idiots though?
The mayor of Paris, Ms. Hidalgo, went that way - was elected and was thought to never ever get into a second term so she just went
crazysane on installing lots of bike friendly infrastructure and pushing cars out of their privileges…Was voted into a second term after people realised how nice a city with lesser cars is. Turns out most people aren’t that crazy for the damages cars do to their city.
