I bought one in February and it’s absolutely amazing. I live next to a mountain range and to just bike into the mountains and forests is incredibly nice. My buddy instantly got jealous and then bought one himself, so we now quite often go for trips. I had wanted one for years and had been saving money to buy one for about 18 months. Zero regrets, even though I have had a ton of injuries already, including a broken arm.
The biggest downside is that they’re expensive. I did an ebike conversion on my old mountain bike and that was pretty easy. It works really well too. Buying a nice 5-10 year old bike of your preference and converting it is definitely the way to go if you want to save some money.
I did that with a dirt cheap Walmart bike and I’m having so many problems, all of them with the dirt cheap Walmart bike parts, the actual e-bike kit has never given me a single problem.
Yeah I could imagine that would cause some issues. Those bikes don’t seem to be the best quality. I suppose the bright side is that there’s no reason you couldn’t find a used bike somewhere and move the motor and battery to that bike instead. You can’t do that with any of the manufactured e bikes that I’m aware of
For real. I love the propulsion tech of EV; hate the in-car experience of every one I’ve been in (and to be fair, most new ICE cars have the same problem.)
My next car will likely be a [used] ICE, not because it’s not EV, but because it’s not a spaceship.
I’m in the same boat; can’t wait to switch but I will be converting my 2003 Jeep. I like standard shift and off road capabilities. I’m still not sure what kind of a conversion I will do since it floods here so you know lithium and water aren’t the best combination.
I’ll buy an EV when I find a reputable manufacturer that isn’t microtransacting or requires to have a “smart” system installed in it.
same goes for any non-ev built after 2013.

Indeed they are but even if I lived somewhere with decent bike infrastructure I wouldn’t want to commute on one in the winter.

Check out the Slate, I have it preordered. Electric, and dumb.
If (and when) Slate makes a vehicle type that fits my needs I’ll consider it. For now, a two-door two-seater (basically) doesn’t cut it for my family.
For ~5k more you can get the SUV version, the real issue is the range imo
It’s not really an SUV version, it’s just a second row of seats. Still two doors, still 2wd. Wouldn’t work for my family.
