Russia and China have issued a joint statement with Iran to call the IAEA draft resolution against the country illegal.

Russia and China have joined Iran in dismissing as illegal a draft resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors referring Iran’s nuclear case to the United Nations Security Council for alleged non-compliance with the Agency’s regulations.

A joint statement by the three countries, which was published by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, slammed the draft resolution put forward by the United States, Britain, France, and Germany as “not relevant”.

The statement said that triggering the so-called “snapback” mechanism under a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, known as the JCPOA, lacks legal basis because a UN Security Council resolution that was adopted more than 10 years ago and endorsed the JCPOA had terminated on 18 October 2025.

“The new draft resolution is yet another attempt by its co-authors to exert additional pressure on Iran and undermine cooperation between Iran and the Agency,” it said.
