    Well, you’ve already chosen an instance to sign up with and start posting, so the confusing part is done.

    Sometimes stuff from the wider network will be missing or inaccessible due to federation issues, but don’t worry too much about it.

    First order of business is to curate a decent feed. Try searching for communities that you’re interested in. Browse the All feed and subscribe to interesting communities, generously block the ones you don’t want to see. Check !communitypromo@lemmy.ca (and its pinned thread) and !newcommunities@lemmy.world for cool ones to join.

    One thing to be aware of is there are many duplicate communities across instances. Check them out, subscribe to each or pick the most active one - or the one on your least disliked instance. On that note, know that some instances are often considered politically extreme or problematic.
