US chicken companies pioneered restricting sleep to keep birds eating around the clock.

A new study (Li et al., 2026) recommends giving chickens just 2 hours of darkness nightly to maximize the time they spend eating. The study and photo are Chinese.

We know chickens have far better hapiness with 7–8 hours of darkness to sleep.

But they eat more and grow faster when they are sleep deprived.

I fully cut meat out of my diet two months ago. I get cravings, but the idea of meat is so morally repugnant to me now that I can hardly even handle seeing friends casually consume it. It really sucks because I know nobody will understand if I start talking about it and I’m kinda forced to be alone with these feelings :(

If watching characters work through allegorically similar problems helps, Ravenous is sort of what I imagine that feeling can be like.
