I find it a lot better then reddit, and exponentially better that Facebook or Twitter (refuse to call it stupid ass X).
I mean you still get a lot of the echo chamber opinions and such, but I think that’s more of a reflection of the current state of society and not Lemmy.

Facebook or the status update bar from facebook. When Twitter launched i was like no fucking way anyone uses this.
