For my partner, it’s 100% the disconnect between the (lack of) sound the car makes and the degree of acceleration. They would feel like my driving was jerkier and less smooth, unless I put on the fake engine noise. They also felt like the car was fine when they were driving.
I could be a shitty driver I guess, but I’ve got the accelerometer data to show that I drive less aggressively than they do.
