    They have nothing to offer. So much of Alberta is owned by the federal government or the indigenous peoples.

    A separated Alberta would be a handful of urban centres (which are strongly opposed to separation) and some farmers here and there. Landlocked and surrounded by hostile borders on all sides.

    It would be the equivalent to setting yourself on fire with gasoline and then begging someone to put out the flames by pissing on you.
