He said division affects parties like the Greens more than major parties because they “don’t have the discipline of being a government or government-in-waiting”.
Being a govt-in-waiting has not stopped either Labor or Liberals in the past from tearing themselves apart, so the ‘discipline’ argument is shallow imv.
Ghazarian believes the Greens’ current tension “goes to the heart” of the party’s identity crisis — its struggle between being an activist party that “works at a grassroots level” and a “traditional party” that is “pragmatic and political”.
I hope someone will do a deeper analysis on this claim. I just hope that at the party’s leadership level the Greens will leave bruised egos aside like Hanson-Young has done and pledge their commitment to the job in front of them.
It has been reported that one disagreement was between Hanson-Young and Waters over the choice of Shoebridge over Faruqi. Hanson-Young seems to have expected Waters to support another woman candidate in herself or Faruqi and was shocked that Waters instead chose to support Shoebridge and organised others to vote for him too. I have to admit, I was also quite surprised that The Greens chose one of the few men in their party room when they have plenty of senior women who would be a point of difference to the major parties.
I can only imagine the shit flinging from the media/right wing if Faruqi won.
Faruqi woukd have beena bad choixe and the second worst. Choice would have been S H-Y imo. I was a big fan of Larissa the Senator bit I think she made for a poor Leader. Hell, she was even on Mastodon fir a bit
We’ll see what Shoebridge does? I find his Ukriane stance appaling but other then that…
im more an old school Green though, planet, plave and people, in thar order, with no liviable biosphere we’re fucked and many of the polices relating to the enviorment and climate change make good economic sense and make for a much lower cost of living as well,
