I didn’t mention Jellyfin, there are other options that just the two ya know? My amazement comes from the fact that Plex, as a corporation, has consistently shown that they hate their own customers. I am equally surprised when I see people still use products by Microsoft, Google, META, Etc, however Plex is particularly perplexing (pun intended), as their core users are not the “general public” but rather a slightly more technically minded subset that should be more adept at seeing the better alternatives.
The thing is it still works though. I paid for a license, it still works, so why would I switch?
Do I wish they would actually add features to the core media server and not just their attempts at capitalization? Sure, I would.
Does the fact they don’t inhibit my ability to use it? No
at seeing the better alternatives
As for example? A mediaserver that allows remote streaming without installing elaborate vpn schemes, whose media matching works reliably and that enables me to use hardware encoding for multiple 4k streams?
I’m going to shill any particular media server, I’m sure you’re perfectly capable of comparing and selecting on your own, nor an I trying to suggest that any will have the same feature set or all the features you wish for out of the box. I’m only expressing surprise that people, particularly people in the homelabbing/self-hosting community, are still using a product like Plex
Why are you perplexed people will still use something they paid $10 for a decade ago that still works for exactly what they need? Sure, don’t start with it now, but why stop if there isn’t anything wrong with how they need to using it? This is going to sound instigating but I truly would like to understand, what drives you to make multiple comments on a subject with no impact on your life what-so-ever just to put people down?
Well, initially I made a comment saying I was surprised, because I am continuously surprised by it, very simple. And then I continued to comment in response to others who were responding to me.
I never meant to put anyone down, and I’ve reread all my comments and I do not see how any of comments were putting people down? (except perhaps for Plex corporate, but I don’t care how companies feel)
I’m always amazed when Jellyfin users lack the minimum critical thinking to see that there are valid reasons for that

Call it smugness if you wish though
