Very very well, actually. Much easier than I thought. I got my hands on a phone that was suitable for LineageOS, installed it (smooth experience - so nice to be able to install your own OS, gives you the sensation to really own the phone, and not the other way around) and only installed degoogled apps. On the personal space there is no Google Play Services nor MicroG. Only apps that if I lose my phone and someone access it it wouldn’t be a problem. On the private space, the apps that have sensitive data or need Google Play Services (MicroG, actually)
So far, I hadn’t much problems. There is only one banking app that did not work (so I changed bank :D). There is an alternative for nearly anything you want. The one and only app that I miss is Maps, I’m using CoMaps, and although the navigation works fine and i like the feeling of it, it doesn’t have traffic info (which makes me lose so much time), takes you to a random number of the street you searched and you can’t find most stores and places only by the name. Anyway, I’m adapting, searching for the places somewhere else, leaving with spare time and trying to have a healthier life in which I’m not in a hurry.
My setup:
- Tuta Mail
- Proton Drive
- Signal
- Aurora Store
- F-Droid (included Izzy on Droid repo)
- FUTO Keyboard
- Vivaldi Browser
- CoMaps
- Kagi Search
- NewPipe (youtube)
- Tidal
- LibreOffice
- Summit (for Lemmy)
Hope it helps those who are considering taking the leap. Once you do it, it’s hard to imagine going back and being monitored 24/7 by the big tech companies

Cool beans, but I have a sad thing to tell you. The Google is still watching you 24/7 there are trackers all over the internet, so that Google knows what ads to show you. You may like adguard home, but I personally prefer Pihole, once you have that set up the trackers and ads go away while you are on your LAN. You want to take it a step further get a firewall you can flash OpenWRT onto and set up a VPN and you can take your ad blocking everywhere.
When I started using pihole I had all my IoT, and idiotically a smartTV, on a single LAN no vLANs. My pihole was blocking well over 60% of my internet trafic when I found out it was the TV I took it off the network entirely. It quickly dropped down to something more like 20 odd %, I have recently got a firewall I could flash a vanialla install of OpenWRT onto to setup vLANs and keep things seperated and the block number has dropped to less than 1%! Now I know the decline in the amount of stuff blocked sounds bad but it is not I am lowering the amount of attack points the ads and trackers can get to me just like your degoogling.
I will say however that you are a lot further along with the degoogling I am, I am stuck with a google account for youtube but I do use Librewolf with adguard and sponser block because I do not have anything strong enough to run new pipe in my homelab. In a few weeks I hope to have a hand me down Mac mini that I will be able to install Debian on and add New pipe to my homelab.
One item in addition to be aware of is something called browser fingerprinting.

I sadly do not have the money to replace my iPhone and iPad yet, my phone stops receiving updates next year so I will be replacing it than with something I can install a non google or apple thing with, but everything else has been changed to some fork of Debian (or OpenWRT). I ran the EFF test and it looks fairly good.
