Nah, this seems like it would circle back around to implying a personality, given the amount of work involved in this (they look like real paintings to me). It’s a nice house with a pretty view, but they probably don’t have the kind of money you need to commission over a dozen very skilled paintings. That likely means that they’re painting them themselves, and that’s a hell of a lot more interesting than most people’s hobbies.

Like, why spend so much time on… this? Is it truly just for the meme? That’s weirdly self-sacrificing: they’re essentially spending months if not years of their time painting these just to bring a slight smile to a bunch of people’s faces. I don’t know if the utilitarian math works out there, but for him it’s definitely a loss. Is this gif itself a piece of art, representing an aspect of society with a bland and hollow house filled with memetic art placed in a landscape that looks like it used to be wilderness?

I have a feeling I’d either have a great conversation with them or I’d send them into an existential spiral (not my intention, but looking at those questions from the perspective of someone who is proud of their house and homemade art which they find fulfilling… yeeesh).

Or they’re not real paintings, lol

I do too, but I don’t like them enough to spend even a whole day making a representation of one (hell, sometimes I just describe to someone what a meme would be like instead of going to the trouble of a few minutes’ work to make it). We’ve all got different levels of tolerance for that, but do they amuse you enough for months-years of effort?

I mean, yeah, but why choose memes? Do they literally just like looking at them (for hundreds of hours)? If so, why- as in what feeling do they get when they look at memes? Have memes played a significant role in their life? Are they making a statement about the world- and if so, what?

That’s one way of seeing it! I’d be interested in hearing more about their thoughts in that case. If they weren’t considering that, I’d want to know what their motivations were.

The only thing I’m saying here is that I don’t think this person has no personality. Even if they were just doing it for the meme, there’s something deeper there.
