They recently had a mod event where they announced they are restricting ban abilities from mods. Basically AI can ban, mods can choose to unban - but not initiate a ban in the first place.

There are a couple mods I like to hate-watch, once a month or so I swing by and see what kind of BS they have been doing lately. The schadenfreude of watching them mald over this was the best I’ve had all year.

No I enjoy it. I’m not sitting there getting angry over anything or having it ruin my day.

Just once and a while swing by and laugh for a bit. It’s like a zoo I guess? But I have more respect for zoos.

“What are the idiots up to today… oh being idiots lol”

dint know this news, im not surprise. probably came out at the same time they announced there will be AI dominated mods, who will “police” AI-subs. probably realized that overbanning has caused them to lose many users/ and now there are more lurkers than not. at the same time, reddit doesnt want to give up thier ai moderation and filtering.

Yeah this is all second hand from an announcement about something that is “going to happen”. So details might differ from what actually shows up.

And yes I think mod abuse is starting to show up in their bottom line. They need people commenting so they target ads more effectively, same reason they killed r/All. They need to know stuff about you so they can send ads.

Mods being the toxic assholes they are is driving people to lurk, as you stated.

the bannings by reddits own filteriing/AI is causing people to lurk, old reddit makes the site legible. the new UI, even if you use extension to remove some of the features is still horrible to use.
