It worries me how companies keep trying to eliminate the human connections; it’s sort of better, service jobs are hard: you take the brunt of righteous rage and are powerless to help in anyway. Often you have quotas, kpis to meet, but imagine that very powerlessness as customer to even get someone to hear your complaint out. Getting a hold of them becomes an achievement and a bureaucratic nightmare that just makes you figure the patience required to deal with it is the punishment—sort of how governments (some), cruel ones, make the bureaucracy a slow crawl punishment where the procedure itself is hell, not the outcome of fair ruling, just a blanket punishment for anyone who even tries: a test if they have the patience, the stamina to outlast your malicious process to get the little chump change they’d be awarded.

Is it only for people with connections, with teams of people, with resources, that you acquire freedom from being exploited in many ways in life by governments, by corporations? I guess money isn’t enough to be protected; even it can be taken, lost, seized. Is there anything, anyway, any country one can be at peace? I guess not, but I do hope a system where a bad day cripples you for life is ruled out by systems that are thoughtful in enforcement that aligns with economics. Currently, systems are designed to be exploited around the world; fines, penalties are factored in as costs to business. I hope some day systems that are designed for masses would be bought in, but then I realize masses, mobs make the stupidest decisions known to mankind, and currently democracies function like corporate with short term profit motive to make the books look good in short term. The parties, the leaders of tomorrow are left holding the bags when the cheques come due. I wonder if anyone will have deep enough pockets or we’d just see the dehumanization of shared blood to cover the scraps.

Allegedly one of the perks of having platinum status with some big airline is that you never have to talk to a machine - you get connected to a human right away. It’s very telling.

Oh, this happened to me two years ago. I had the first flight of a round trip get cancelled due to a hurricane. I tried to contact support and was just put into a chat with a chatbot that said it fixed my problem… It didn’t. I didn’t qualify to talk with a human because I bought the cheapest ticket and my flight was too far out.
