There’s a lot to unpack in this report. The interesting thing to me is the role of journalism in kinda-sorta keeping these chucklehead CEOs in check.

The move came after 404 Media published an investigation on Thursday, which showed how Yen was aggressively pushing AI across Proton, in some cases despite security concerns from employees.

Yen, and any smart CEO, will see the problem here is their employees talking to media. I expect that this will be used to stifle trying to get public support and other organization efforts under the guise of data loss prevention, and we’ll see less opportunities for whistleblowers to get these kinds of activities under scrutiny.

The short answer is that there really isn’t a parity provider alternative so I wouldn’t feel too bad. If it’s the best of bad options it’s still bad but still the best.
