America is back in the era of kings, and arguably a worse one
Humans evolved like that as a survival strategy. Even before agriculture was invented, if someone of the tribe was hoarding resources or being aggressive, there’s strong evidence the rest of the tribe grouped up to either shun them completely or beat the offender to death.
Evidently, ignoring that survival strategy has led to a massive host of problems, and progress has only been seen made after violent solutions were done.
France for example improved after the first revolution. Of course, this eventually got worse again, but then more revolutions course corrected. It seems humans require this course correction over multiple times continuously, but as long as its applied, things do improve over time.
Perhaps one day, with enough self corrections, we’ll arrive to a point where violence against societal offenders is no longer needed. But until then, the lack of it will unfortunately lead to this worsening.
