Sony is encouraging PlayStation owners to trade in their PS5 consoles for up to $400, with notifications being sent to players offering cash in exchange for their old hardware.
I just about would, if not for the fact that I don’t even want to give Sony the benefit. My Black Friday PS5 Disc purchase was the biggest financial mistake of my adult life.
6 years later and still no games. PS6 teasers and still not a single game on PS5. It’s unprecedented. At least I got to replay Dishonored without having to dig out my PS4 lol backwards compatibility was the only selling point for me. Now that I’ve got a Shield in the living room, it’s done nothing but collect dust as an ugly eyesore.
The actual jailbreaking part isn’t what I’m having difficulty with. It’s pretty straightforward. It’s what to do after it’s jail broken. Like where tf do I get games from?
The PS5 has 25 exclusives (only on ps5) according to Wikipedia. However, a few of the games listed have a release date in the future and a handful more are re-releases or not full games. Going through the list, it looks like less than 10 that have already released, aren’t a remake, and are full games.
So if you’re just going off the game library, that’s a harder sell. Obviously there are other reasons to buy a PS5, but the benefits of consoles over PCs seems to be getting smaller and smaller.
Is there a wish for more exclusives? When I was younger we complained about too many exclusives. Playing Game A needed Console A, Game B needed Console B, leading to needing a PS2 to play Silent Hill while needing an Xbox to play Halo. The dream was to only need one console and have them all compatible so you and your mates could all share experiences. Then your hardware choice would down to slight hardware advantages, innovation, aesthetics, and personal preference instead. Do I get a PC because I like sitting at the desk with a mouse? Do I get an Xbox because of the media theatre aspect? Do I get a PS2 because of the cool looks and software?
It’s odd seeing commentary about there not being enough exclusives 15 years later.
The comment I replied to said there’s more controllers than games, and the parent comment was that there’s no games. That’s what confused me, not that there’s no exclusives.
The only reason to specifically choose a ps5 if you already have a PC or are going to get one anyway, is for the exclusive games. If a game is on PC and PS5 what possible reason would there be to choose to play it on a device that’s more restricted, more locked down, not upgradable, and is collecting all your data and constantly trying to lock you into a subscription and sell you things? That’s why exclusives are relevant. Nobody wants to use the PS5. They do it because in some situations it’s the only choice. But with the PS5 that justification never even really materialized.
Exclusives aren’t the only reason to buy a game on a PS5 (or any console) if you own a PC. The other big reason is that you can buy a physical game that you can then lend to a friend or family member or later give or sell to someone else. Don’t worry, Sony is eagerly removing that reason from the equation. The only other reason that has lead to me buying a game for PS5 instead of PC is Denuvo or Linux compatibility.
Honestly, I think it’s really the rate in which big games are being released tied up with console exclusives that has people upset.
If I’m going to just play indie games there isn’t much reason to use a PS5 for that (or maybe that’s not the type of games most people care about).
I know in my household we talked about getting a PS5, but the only game that’s out that I slightly care about is Wolverine. Not only did it just get okay reviews, but it’s not worth $700+ to play a single game.
God of War or Ghosts of Tushima might have been tempting, but they’re now on PC, where I won’t have to worry a out backwards compatability in the future.
Depending on your specific disc drive being able to read CDs or not it is now possible to run any PlayStation software from any generation off of the disc. If you have the disc drive that doesn’t read CDs that only discounts PS1 and some PS2 releases but an external CD drive can solve that.
Not to mention all the other emulators for pretty much every system that are all currently in a good place or being actively developed the PS5 is now the ultimate device in terms of backwards compatibility.

The jailbreak scene is looking pretty hot right now though, depending if you’re on the right firmware and haven’t updated recently.
Yea. Unplugged mine since it is still on 13.6 and am figuring out how to go about it. Don’t know where or how to get games and stuff though.
Modded Warfare on YouTube has a lot of info about it.
I was in your situation, but I upgraded to 14.2 since it was preventing me from playing the updated version of a game I really enjoy.
I hope I won’t regret it, but having a Playstation 5 and not using it seemed like a waste.
Eh, just watch some PS5 jailbreak videos, you’ll get it figured out. Someone else may have more direct info. 👍

It does have games though? I must be missing the joke - PS5 has 1128 PS5 native games

The regular buyer (kids and their parents who don’t know better) are often drawn by the exclusives specifically.
