This is the only cable I have that I THINK is a Mini B, but as I say its too big for the port

Yeah, that’s a mini-USB cable. Which is what the other person with a device that actually has a USB logo next to the port was looking for.
The port on your device is Mini DisplayPort, also known as Thunderbolt on Apple devices.Japanese-made mini-USB variant called UC-E6. The UC-E6 pprt is almost exactly the same proportions as mini-DisplayPort but ever so slightly smaller. Wild that it found its way onto a Swiss-made camera. Maximum confusion, especially with the device not identifying the port as USB.
