As many as 96 people are now thought to have died in Argentina after being treated with medical-use fentanyl that was tainted with bacteria.
The official death toll stands at 87, and a judicial source has told the Buenos Aires Herald that nine further deaths are under investigation.
The alarm was first raised in May, when dozens of hospital patients suffered serious bacterial infections. Strains of the bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae and Ralstonia pickettii – some of which were resistant to multiple antibiotics – were detected in the patients.
… The same Argentina which voted for someone who massively reduced oversight for companies producing and importing drugs and medical devices?
That’s really sad to hear.
I wonder what could have caused this.
It’s crazy that it took 4 months to figure it out. What an awful way to die after knowing the place they went to be helped ended up being their death sentence, and there was nothing they could have done.
It’s their own fault for not doing enough research about the fentanyl that their local hospitals use, and choosing based on that. This is just the free market at work.

Pussies. Us Americans don’t need any bacteria to kill ourselves with fent
First contamination with fentanyl made other drugs unsafe and risky. Now fentanyl itself is contaminated.
