You’re going to be very surprised how well fascism does in Western Europe. It always starts simple, with immigration. Blaming them for the economy, etc. Then slowly the minorities are blamed and stripped of their rights. There’s often a moral majority too, so anyone not [whatever religion] is bad.
If you hear things like, “I’m sick of hearing the <minority> making everything about their <minority status>” then you know the slope is getting slippery.
