I’ve been practicing visible mending recently - basically embroidering over holes/tears - and recently did this little fella on a pair of pants
Why is this in bad posting this is very cool
I can never remember where dogpile joke-titled posts go - and thought I’d pepper in some effort to keep things interesting ;)
this could probably also fit in c/hobby or c/diy if you wanted to crosspost it, up to you! it’s a very good post :D
I totally forget about those! I really do need to share my art on them (mostly block printing - with the occasional side quest). I’ll post this evening if I remember
I think this is in the wrong place. This is a good post.
Oh an also, do you have any advice for someone who wants to get into mending their clothes and stuff? What sort of sowing equipment should I look for, and what sorts of thread etc?
Yeah! There are a lot of good videos on it (I learned about it from tiktok) - but really there are just a few basic stitches - https://stitchedstories.com/12-essential-embroidery-stitches/
For patching stuff, I’ll usually use a piece of scrap cloth on the inside to help hold things together, and secure that with a straight stitch or a back stitch. Then it’s basically like drawing but with embroidery thread (or any thread you’d like!) and the things you “draw” hold the patch in place and cover the hole
visible mending is so cool, i’ve done it before but never thought to do any fun designs! your little bee is so cute!! :o
Thank you! I needed to cover a sizable tear and had run out of other things to embroider - so I figured why not feed two birds with one scone!
Buzz buzz
That’s a cool bee
Thanks!! Embroidery is so much fun and a lot easier than I thought. Now no one can stop me from putting unhinged stuff on things!
Amazing what you can accomplish when bumbling around. Flights of fancy often lead to flowering of new skills.
Ayyyyyyy!
This is very cool, thanks for sharing! I fixed it to be more appropriate for badposting, though
Hahaha I have a hat I just took the patch off of and I should totally embroider Beanis on it. My other plan is “I just wanna grill for christsakes” with the grill dude on it - but I should probably do that on an apron
Reminds me of an in-law of mine, where any clothing he has with a logo on it gets a patch of some sort sewn over it. He had some pretty sick dinosaur swim trunks last I saw him.
Haha yeah I love a seam ripper for that type of thing. Shout out to tech bros for helping me get less expensive outdoor gear- just gotta carefully rip the microsoft logo off the patagonia stuff lol
Lmao that rules
