    couldnt Jupiter just be a series of protective rings around the outer solar system and not a large overbearing presence? I didnt vote for Jupiter and its forever status frankly alarms me

      You’d need a tremendous amount of matter (I’d guess much more than 1 Jupiter mass) to significantly protect the solar system from the outside. But then that mass would probably get pulled in by the sun. The reason the outer solar system remains outer is because it is mostly empty.
