of course lottos are a statistician’s joke, but its still fun to imagine you’d do with that kind of capital. Sort of like imagining what a could have done with the Unitary Executive Theory

I keep thinking about business ventures. Amazon’s eink kindle dominates the market but is universally loathed, it could be kicked out by a cheap, open source alternative. With buttons to turn the page. Or a phone based on the opensource fork of andoid, sans google’s malware, with dedicated physical switches to cut the camera and microphone from the battery and motherboard as the owner sees fit. Start a privately owned company, cultivate ties with manufacturing in China, get into coding assembling and shipping the things, then once the business is stable, try and convert it to a co-op, like Engels passing commie lit to his employees.
I have been looking into “dumb” (sorry for the slur I am using it to counter the idea of smart technology) technology. We really need a second internet that rolls back a lot of intrusive shit and we need devices that connect to that network safely. There are already companies that make privacy-forward devices. They simply take existing mass produced hardware and insert custom firmware to disable the backdoor features. I think it would be better to have a hardware manufacturer that doesn’t include any of that shit to begin with. And to build universal, modular devices that are designed to work with the rolled back internet.
If we take lessons from cybernetics, we vertically integrate it all. A company that makes devices, networking protocol for them, and the firmware/software. It would also be cool to make them also low-power devices rather than increasingly expensive space heaters.
